Right on the doorstep Arnside and Silverdale, also designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is perhaps less well known
yet those who explore the area will be well rewarded.
Leighton Moss RSPB nature reserve has activities throughout the year and is a tourist attraction not to be missed, while Leighton Hall stately home has a good collection of antique Gillow furniture and some panoramic views over to the Lake District. Birds of prey are flown regularly. Carnforth railway station, famous for the 1943 film ‘Brief Encounter’, is now restored and has an interesting heritage centre. The attractions of Morecambe Bay and the historic city of Lancaster are just down the road. Blackpool offers its own unique style of entertainment. There are almost unlimited opportunities close at hand for leisure activities including walking, rambling, climbing, cycling, golfing, sailing, fishing, windsurfing and bird watching; or simply enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside to get away from it all! Non-motorised sports are allowed on the lake within the Leisure Village and water skiing can be arranged on the adjoining Pine Lake that is within walking distance.
